Daily Prompt : Simply the Best

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Simply the Best.”

“The NASA Voyager spacecraft is scheduled for launch on August 1st, 7.05 a.m. I want the recommendation on my desk ASAP !” my boss reminded me, as we walked into the office.

Ever since, NASA rolled out the ‘ Hello Aliens, Gift from Earth !’ contest, my inbox has been overflowing with emails.

People from all walks of life, from places far and wide are sending entries day and night. NASA has decided that Voyager spacecraft will have on board items that represent modern human culture- a glimpse of human world for aliens. The contest invites suggestions from people all over the world.

Not everyone at NASA is a space scientist 🙂 .

Someone has to sit at her desk, go through thousands of emails and select the item. IMPORTANT, BACK-BREAKING,BORING task !!!!

While slowly going through the sea of emails, I found gadgets- mobiles, tablets, phablets, X box, robots to be the popular choice. Even I was convinced that these electronic devices represent our modern human culture. They are a part of our everyday life. Imagine spending a day without any of them !

Then suddenly, I saw a mail with an awkward suggestion. It was from a kindergarten teacher. She had sent a photo album with pictures of children happily playing, a group of kids hugging a tree and many more similar pictures.

It was accompanied by a little note- “These children have no prejudice. They do not judge others by the color of their skin or by the language they speak. They share the same love and respect for mother Earth. They are our future. They represent our culture-the culture we adults have forgotten. What do we want the aliens to think of us  – robot like creatures without emotions, full of bitterness or creatures with hope, living in harmony ?

Without further ado, I knew what my recommendation would be – the photo album sent by the kindergarten teacher, of course.

  1. That is such a lovely photo of the children dancing around the tree. Round and round they go, without a care in the world and enjoying childhood for what it is. Great response to the prompt. A little fun and something a bit out of the ordinary always breaks the routine on the job 🙂

    1. Thanks Mabel, your comments also make me smile.Sorry for the late reply though :). I haven’t been very regular on WordPress for the past few months, only getting time to go through the posts in the weekends. How is life at your end ?

      1. It’s rainy season for us in India. But this time, Bangalore is relatively dry compared to past years.North east India,as usual, is facing severe floods. Am planning to go back to work, not full time butt something I can do from home. Was thinking about freelance content writing as an option. Feeling edgy and nervous 🙂
