In a field one summer's day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its hearts content. An ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to his nest...... The Grasshopper sat on a blade of grass and watched the procession of ants carrying food to their nest. They were super busy. Some carried bread crumbs, some sugar cubes, some leaves, some dead insects twice their weight.Tapping their antennae, sharing information they foraged for food tirelessly. The little creatures seemed committed to a cause, aware of the situation in hand, securing and preparing for future. Now,our little Grasshopper was a 21st century grasshopper. He didn't live in the wilderness. He was a city-dweller.He remembered the story he had heard the Kindergarten teacher read to her little students the other day. It was about his great-great-great-great-Grand Dad and the Ants. "....when winter came the grasshopper found itself dying of hunger." the concluding line of the story rang in his ears. Little Grasshopper shuddered at the thought. He was late.He had forgotten about the oncoming winter. He had been too happy chirping and singing and hopping. He had procrastinated. He had been lazy. Our Little Grasshopper wasted no time. He jumped down from the grass blade and rushed to forage for food, to secure his future.
